Vodafone Group PLC said it is launching an interactive radio service to 3G phones and PCs with Sony Corp’s Netservices division that allows listeners to skip songs they don’t like and to download them if they wish to.
The service, called ‘Vodafone Radio DJ’ will be in the coming months in six European countries, including the UK, France and Germany, and the plan is to roll it out to some 20 countries around the world over the next year.
Vodafone said users will get access to ‘hundreds of thousands of songs, both current popular hits and back catalogue, from the world’s largest record companies, and many smaller independent labels.’
The main feature of the new service is a system that enables customers to ‘train’ the pre-programmed radio channels to their own personal taste by pressing a button to indicate ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ while listening to a song.
