McDonald’s has offered to pay top hip hop artists to incorporate the ‘Big Mac’ into their song lyrics.
According to Advertising Age magazine, the fast food chain will pay rappers up to £2.80 ($5) every time a song namechecking the burger is played.
McDonald’s said the US deal reflected the appeal of hip hop to young people.
However, critics said the tie-up was “deceptive” given that the songs would appeal to children, for whom obesity levels have become a major concern. [more @ www.guerrillanews.com]
[I’m dumbfounded but not surprised at this news. I think any rapper participating in this deserves to die in a horrible fashion for prostituting the artform, but hey, that’s nothing new. On the other hand, I hope it goes ahead because kids aren’t as stupid as people think and at least some of them will see this blatant, rampant commercialism for what it is and it may wake them up to the fact that the vast majority of commercial Hip Hop is utter bullshit and not something they should be a part of.
