Musicmatch has just introduced its latest version, 9.0, which has wowed many with an innovation that had never been applied to licensed, digital music: the ability to share songs with friends, akin to the file-sharing experience, but legally. And it’s in a way that even the record industry approves of.
“We’re very excited about it,” says Ted Cohen, senior vice president of music label EMI Music (Janet Jackson, Coldplay). “This is a way for music to be enjoyed and shared and artists to get paid, and they are not mutually exclusive. That’s great.”
