Starting on 1 January 2005, copies of songs can be issued in Europe 50 years after their release without the need for payments to copyright owners.
It could affect records by Chuck Berry, James Brown – and by 2013, The Beatles. [more @ www.news.bbc.co.uk]

Industry executives must now consider what is needed to accelerate U.S. sales, or if there are better opportunities in licensing music to games and other new forms of entertainment. Subscription radio may also be a viable business option.” [

Firstly, an interesting article reading between the lines of the Apple/Motorola deal from The Register.

Secondly, a very interesting interview with Peter Gabriel from CNN on the future of music and the music business.

Pick of the week this week comes in the form of Fabriclive 17 : Aim, released 8/16/2004 on Fabric. Fabriclive 17 is an unhurried journey through Aim’s record collection and influences. Like his DJ sets, the selection of hip hop, soul and funk tracks are often allowed to play out.
With a diverse array of artists like Boards Of Canada, The Byrds , A Tribe Called Quest and Aim’s Manchester compadres Fingathing, this album is a good representation of what Aim is about; diverse, original, cool as f**k music.
Check it an official radio mix to promote the fabric album HERE.
