I happened to catch the ‘Q Awards’ on TV on Monday night (lost my invite..obviously). The first award I saw was for best single. None of the nominees were neccesarily my cup of tea but were all undoubtedly talented artists in their field. Even Christina Aguilera, whoose ‘Beautiful’ single I have been defending for months…But ‘Dirrrty’ best single?...against ‘Clocks’?...’Seven Man Army?’...Puh-lease! Had it been the award for best arse I would have concurred. Call me cynical (and I’m afraid I am) but it was my understanding that the ‘Q’ Awards were voted for by ‘Q’ magazine readers…Muso’s. If so how did they vote it best single?...HOW? If these Awards are voted for by the Public, why did they vote it best single? Because of the inccessant marketing/brainwashing that tells people something is brilliant…when it (in my humble opinion) patently isn’t. Where is the young boy in the crowd who holds up his hand and says “But Mummy, The Emperor isn’t wearing any clothes!”... ?
