BBC Receives Hundreds of Complaints

Wednesday, December 11th, 2002

Hundreds of complaints have been received and a brilliant web site (www.londumb.co.uk) has been created (supported by Alan McGee and several labels) regarding the axing of several radio shows on BBC Radio London.

Alison Wenham, CEO of AIM, the voice of the UK’s 700 independent record labels has written to the BBC and Culture Secretary… “We are appalled that not one, but five specialist music shows have been axed from BBC London. These shows were vital to the process of breaking and developing new artists, and were very popular amongst their audiences.”. “Given the Public Service Broadcast remit of the BBC, specifically that “the support of local music and arts is an important part of the BBC English Regions local radio and community role”, the action taken by BBC London seems to be in direct contravention of this commitment.”
